Sport and Physical Education
At EtonHouse International School Broadrick, sport is an important part of a balanced education. Through weekly PE lessons, specialist coaching programmes, sports ECAs, inter-house events, school teams and ACSIS competitions, students have opportunities to build physical confidence, teamwork, resilience and a lifelong enjoyment of being active.
Whether students are discovering a new sport, developing their skills or representing the school in competition, they are encouraged to participate with confidence, commitment and good sportsmanship.

What sports opportunities are available at EtonHouse Broadrick?
Students can engage in sport through a range of opportunities, including:
- Weekly Physical Education lessons
- Specialist sports coaching
- Sports ECAs
- Inter-house sports and Sports Day
- School teams
- ACSIS inter-school competitions
- Recreational tournaments within the EtonHouse group
Sport at EtonHouse Broadrick is designed to support students at different levels of interest, confidence and experience. Students begin by developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork and physical confidence through PE, with further opportunities to deepen their interest through sports ECAs, specialist coaching and inter-house sport. As they grow in commitment, skill and readiness, students may progress into school team training and inter-school competition opportunities such as ACSIS. This pathway supports both participation and development, helping each student grow at a pace that is appropriate for them.
Physical Education

Students at EtonHouse Broadrick have one PE lesson each week as part of the school curriculum. The PE programme helps students develop physical literacy, confidence and a positive relationship with sport and movement.
Learning is guided by five key strands from the IB Physical Education scope and sequence:
- Fundamental movement and motor patterns, including kicking, catching, rolling, bouncing, striking and throwing
- Locomotor movement, such as running, jumping, skipping, leaping, chasing, fleeing and dodging
- Non-locomotor movement, including balancing, stretching, bending, twisting, swinging and pushing
- Health and skill-related fitness, including strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, agility, speed, balance, power and reaction time
- Creative movement and expression, including rhythm, choreography and using the body as an expressive medium
As students progress through the school, the PE programme develops with them. In the early years, the focus is on active play, body awareness and exploring movement. In the primary years, students begin to apply movement patterns, understand different levels of physical activity, develop game strategies and recognise how healthy habits support fitness. By the upper primary years, students are encouraged to make more independent choices, refine technique, assess risks and opportunities, and apply strategies in different sporting contexts.
Specialist Sports Coaching

In addition to PE, students from Year 2 to Year 6 participate in specialist sports coaching for one semester each year. These sessions are led by qualified external coaches and take place for 45 minutes each week.
The programme gives students exposure to different sports, coaching styles and skill-development opportunities. Specialist sports may include activities such as football, touch rugby, netball and gymnastics. These sessions are non-chargeable and form part of the wider school experience.
Sports ECAs
Students can further develop their sporting interests through after-school ECAs. Sports ECAs may include football, basketball, netball, badminton, cricket, cross country, running club, yoga and ball skills, with both recreational and competitive options available depending on the sport.
Sports ECAs typically run after school from Monday to Thursday, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Students may choose and try different ECAs each semester, giving them the opportunity to explore new sports, build specific skills and participate in an active, social and supportive environment beyond regular PE lessons. Offerings vary by semester, age group and student demand, with at least one sports-based ECA available for each year group every semester.
Students may also have opportunities to join chargeable ECAs led by external coaches. These may include swimming, gymnastics, football, karate and badminton.
House Competitions and Sports Events

House competitions and sports events help make sport part of the wider school community. These events encourage participation, teamwork and school spirit, giving students opportunities to contribute to their house, support their peers and experience friendly competition.
Besides the annual Sports Day, students from Year 2 and above take part in biweekly inter-house sports competitions as part of their timetable. These events provide regular opportunities for students to participate, collaborate and compete in a supportive environment.
Competitions may range from traditional sports such as football, netball, dodgeball and athletics to recreational challenges such as tug of war, bowling and team-building games.
The inclusion of these events throughout the school year encourages students to take part, challenge themselves and celebrate effort as well as achievement.
School Teams
Students also have opportunities to represent EtonHouse Broadrick through school teams. Current team opportunities include basketball, football and netball, giving students the chance to develop commitment, teamwork and match experience.
Team training helps students build sport-specific skills while learning the importance of discipline, communication and representing the school with pride.

We really loved the facilities, the outdoor space the school offers and the super friendly and approachable staff. EtonHouse Broadrick gives students and parents a “family feeling”. The school has a lovely “at home” feel while offering a vast and green outdoor area for the kids to play and explore. Classes are sometimes taken outside, which our son enjoys in particular. Another big pull for us was the Japanese language programme, which the school offers as part of the Mainstream Learning curriculum. With familial ties to Japan, we wanted to continue to support their Japanese learning in terms of language and its cultural nuances too. Our children really enjoy their time in this class. What we valued the most about the school was the diversity of teachers and their passion for teaching the children. The staff are always around in the morning to greet the children by their names and assist with their arrivals with big smiles on their faces. Our children have formed friendships with children from all over the world. They also love the individual specialist classes, which give children access to a curriculum that’s more than just academic. Read more here
