He will be continuing his academic journey at the University of Toronto, where he plans to study Mathematics and Physical Sciences.

Originally from Japan, Shun joined EtonHouse in Year 9. “It was very challenging to join an international school with limited English skills,” he shared. “But I was able to form friendships easily and immerse myself in an English-speaking environment, which helped me a lot to improve.”

With support from his teachers and peers, Shun made steady progress, both academically and personally. “The teachers took the time to really understand me and offered unwavering support during my times of difficulties, such as university applications and A-Level exams,” he said.

Shun was also an EtonHouse scholar, a role that deepened his motivation and sense of responsibility. “It reinforced my commitment to excelling academically, while also remaining grounded and giving back to others.”

Outside the classroom, Shun contributed actively to school life. He was part of the Student Council, led the cross-country team to secure an ACSIS medal, and participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, which included an expedition to Thailand. These experiences helped him develop leadership, resilience, and a strong sense of self.

Among his most memorable projects was his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) on the physics of teleportation — a topic inspired by his childhood curiosity. “The EPQ gave me the chance to explore teleportation from a scientific perspective. My EPQ and Physics teachers supported me with regular mentoring sessions that helped me refine my research and structure my dissertation.”

Reflecting on his time at EtonHouse, Shun said, “I learned a lot of soft skills, including resilience, time management, and critical thinking. But the biggest takeaway is definitely my passion for Physics and Maths. The teachers and environment made me genuinely love these subjects.”

To his juniors, Shun offers this advice: “Enjoy what you love to do and don’t give up. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow.”

When asked to describe EtonHouse in one word, he chose “bright.” For Shun, the school has illuminated the path forward — and he’s now ready to take the next step with confidence.
