The Royal Government of Bhutan and EtonHouse International Education Group have announced a landmark partnership to establish EtonHouse Bhutan International School, the nation’s first international K-12 school.
The agreement, marked on 25 May 2026 in partnership with Bhutan’s Ministry of Education and Skills Development, represents a major step in expanding access to internationally benchmarked learning within the Kingdom. The school is set to open in Academic Year 26/27, creating a pathway from the early years through high school, offering internationally recognised curriculum, globally recognised university pathways, and future-ready learning within Bhutan itself.
Founded in Singapore in 1995, EtonHouse has grown into a global education group with more than 100 schools across eight countries.
EtonHouse Bhutan International School is designed to nurture learners who are globally engaged while remaining deeply connected to their cultural identity and principles of Gross National Happiness. Its curriculum will combine inquiry-led learning, multilingual development, academic rigour, sustainability, STEAM, creativity, and wellbeing.
In the early years, children will experience the EtonHouse Inquire. Think. Learn curriculum, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. Primary students will engage with the International Primary Curriculum, Singapore Mathematics, and UK-aligned core subjects. As the school expands, students will progress through Cambridge Lower Secondary, Cambridge IGCSE, and International A Level qualifications.
Bhutanese History and Dzongkha will remain integral to the learning experience. The multilingual programme will include English, Dzongkha, and Mandarin, supporting both strong local identity and confidence in a global environment.
The purpose-built campus will include a Research and Innovation Centre, Science laboratories, Cultural Learning Spaces, a Multipurpose Sports Hall, a Performing Arts Studio, and Reggio-inspired ateliers for hands-on inquiry and creative expression.
The partnership also extends beyond student learning. EtonHouse will support educator development through professional learning, education conferences, and access to internationally recognised Reggio Children expertise through its membership in the Reggio Children International Network.
To support access and national talent development, a dedicated scholarship scheme will provide full tuition sponsorship for up to ten outstanding Bhutanese students. EtonHouse Bhutan International School will begin enrolments for Nursery 1 to Year 6, serving children aged 3 to 11, with plans to expand progressively to include students up to age 18.
For families, the school offers a new opportunity to access a complete international education pathway in Bhutan: one that brings together global perspective, strong academics, cultural grounding, and the EtonHouse commitment to inquiry-led learning.
