My name is Jill, Core Teacher for Pre-Nursery A. I am from the Philippines, and I’ve been living in Singapore with my family for almost seventeen years. I have two girls and a boy ages eighteen, fourteen and nine years old, respectively. I worked with children aged 3-12 years in the Philippines for six years in both Kindergarten and Primary School. This is my twelfth year working with children and their families at EtonHouse International School. I am a passionate early childhood teacher, and I strongly believe that every child is precious and unique in their own way and as an educator, I endeavour to recognise, value and nurture this uniqueness. I see children being active learners, competent, capable individuals, thinkers and communicators who are keen on exploring and knowing the world. My name is Maggie and I am pleased to be the Mandarin Teacher in Pre-Nursery. I am from Jilin, China. I am honoured to be a part of the EtonHouse community and this will be my seventh year at EtonHouse. As an early childhood educator, I strongly believe that it is very important to have respect for children and I view them as individuals with their own uniqueness. Respecting their interest and self-directed play will inspire and develop their curiosity for the world around them. This is a powerful motivation for them to devote time and a strong interest in their own learning and experiences to construct their knowledge. I love to work alongside the children through play and inquiry as I believe that it is also a process in which teachers and children learn and grow together. During my personal time, I treasure the time with my family, doing activities outdoors and enjoying different cuisines. My name is Ilandi and I am from South Africa. For the past 19 years I have had the honour to work with and alongside children, in the Early Years. I have been part of the EtonHouse Thomson community since January 2015.

I am deeply inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and I believe that children are unique individuals, full of curiosity about the world around them, who learn through play, exploring, helping each other and collaborating. 

Creating and designing an environment with beautiful spaces, that feels homely and where children feel comfortable, confident and loved, is a favourite of mine. I strive to design provocations that support child-initiated exploration and creating, that provokes an understanding of new concepts and to interact with children in ways that develop language, social and thinking skills, and that inspires a deep connection with nature. It brings me joy to foster a love for learning through creativity, magic and wonder, as I support the children on their learning journey and empower them to take ownership of their learning, and to become confident lifelong learners.

When I’m not in the classroom, I’m collecting memories through travelling, getting lost in nature, capturing moments through my camera lens and finding balance through meditation, yoga and music.

My name is Priscilla and I’m from Singapore. I enjoy exploring various places such as museums, science centres and other cultural exhibitions together with people around me. I had studied Early Childhood Education with Wheelock college as well as Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Upon graduation, I’ve worked in various local early childhood setting and have 5 years experience working with parents and children. I strongly believe in free exploration for children as children have the opportunity t hi o make decisions independently and take ownership of their learning. Children are inquisitive by nature and love exploring their environment. Creating a safe and positive environment for them to explore is essential to support the children’s learning.  I look forward to be in this learning journey together with you all.

I am from Beijing and I am very pleased to have the opportunity working with children of different age groups for the last 8 years at EtonHouse Thomson. I am inspired by the educational inspirations of Reggio Emilia and believe that this approach further extends the natural capabilities in children and supports them as they naturally explore their world around them. I believe that children are respectful and capable. Each child is unique and has his/her own way of learning and process of the development. It is essential to take each child’s prior knowledge into consideration when we interact with the child and support his/her independent learning.  My hobby is doing Sivananda yoga and travelling. These not only keep me healthy and peaceful, I also share my thoughts with others. I am honored to be the Mandarin teacher of K1A  and am looking forward to spending a wonderful year with the children!

I am greatly honoured to introduce myself as Mrs. Anchen Favero. I have had the privilege to work with children in different age groups in the Primary School Phase and I have been pursuing this passion for 6 years. My personal goal for my future classroom is to challenge students and watch them grow to their full potential. I want to work alongside students who are at different levels and see them develop together for the better of each individual. In my classroom, I want students to have freedom that nurtures expression and creativity. Students should be able to experiment with likes and dislikes and to realise their strengths and areas they wish to develop. I feel it is beneficial for students to explore and inquire rather than being told what the answer is, because it stretches their knowledge and teaches them how to find information in a variety of ways. I am looking forward to working in an environment that is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach to learning. An approach that is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery and self-guided curriculum. I believe that my philosophy as an educator supports EtonHouse’s vision that reads shaping the future through education.

I am originally from the UK and moved to Singapore with my family when I was 13 years old. I developed an interest in early childhood education, as well as the development of young children after helping out in my mum’s classroom at EtonHouse Newton during my school holidays. I have been since been working with EtonHouse as a full time member of staff since 2003. I believe that young children are competent individuals who are active citizens with rights and contributing members of our school community. As an early years educator, I also have a special interest in exploring music and movement as well as storytelling and speech and drama. I also hope to work with this aspect more and bring it alive in the classroom setting. I look forward to working with all families and children within the class community for the upcoming school year.

My name is Mengna, I am from Chongqing, China. Since my first daughter was born and through my interactions with her, she introduced me to a different world and perspective. I realised that each child is unique. I started to work in an early childhood education centre in Chengdu, China. I moved to Singapore with my family and continued my studies in Early Childhood Education. I have been working as a Chinese teacher in  early childhood education centres in Singapore. 

I have worked at EtonHouse Thomson since August 2016 as part of the Nursery 1 teaching teams. I believe that every child is curious and creative.  They follow their interests naturally.  I respect their interests and explore the world with and alongside the children.

Greetings! I am Gayathri Shiva (Gia) and I have been teaching early years for the past nine years, at an International School in Singapore. As much as I enjoyed  working at the previous school, I am excited to experience the rich culture and diversity at Etonhouse and I look forward to continuing my learning journey with all of you.

Over the years I have found my passion working in collaboration with children to experience the wonders of the world around us. I find great joy in nurturing the growth and development of young children by both embracing and encouraging a child’s innate sense of wonder, enthusiasm and creativity. I believe that all children are competent individuals  who are curious, creative, unique, capable and constructors of culture and knowledge. I feel particularly connected to inquiry- based learning as my experience in PYP has allowed me to appreciate the openness of inquiry and the beauty that comes from the facilitation of learning.

My name is Winnie Layes. I am from Hong Kong where I began working with children as a learning support assistant at the English Schools Foundation. I have been part of the EtonHouse Thomson community since 2017. I have a background in foreign language study, special needs education and inclusive education. In my spare time, I like to travel and spend time with my family. 

I believe that the IB curriculum provides a strong platform for more inclusive education as inquiry-based learning experiences allow all types of learners to play an active role; it gives teachers the opportunity to act as an instrument to facilitate meaningful participations and dialogues for learners within a rich intercultural context. It promotes holistic learning and teaching approaches.

Every child is unique. Reggio Emilia approach highlights the strength of the individuals and we value each other’s differences. Our community encourages a nurturing environment which focuses on learners’ interests and to support them in every way to become an independent and confident learner. My name is Jessica Long. I have two sons and my little one is 3 years old.

I was from Xi’an, China. It is an ancient cultural city with a strong cultural atmosphere. I am very fascinated and proud of Chinese language and culture. Being able to support children’s Mandarin development and introduce them to the Chinese culture is a great pleasure.

I have been a Mandarin teacher for the past 12 years in Singapore. Children are eager to explore, discover, and learn and are creative. As a teacher, I believe my role is to support and guide children with an open mind, respect and listen to their thoughts and activities, assess their needs and provide different types of learning experience to support each child’s development. I like to interact with and engage them in activities that are interesting and meaningful to them, and watching them grow up as happy and confident learners. I am dedicated to supporting the social and emotional development of each child and make it my goal to make sure that each child receives the best care and love that they all deserve.

In my spare time I love reading & enjoy music and yoga, travel and experience the world with my children.

I am from Scotland, UK and I have been living in Singapore since 2018. I have enjoyed teaching the PYP Curriculum to Kindergarten 1 at EtonHouse Thomson for 2 years. I have experience teaching the British Curriculum for over 5 years at various international schools around the world. I also have experience teaching the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence in the UK.

Previously, I have had wonderful opportunities to teach in Qatar, The Czech Republic and the UAE. Each one of my experiences have helped me to grow and learn as a teacher.

I view children as confident, competent and creative people who are filled with endless curiosity. As an educator, I feel that it is important to provide children with hands-on exploratory learning which encourages children to investigate and discover answers. I believe that children are motivated and have more enthusiasm to understand when guided by their own interests which adults support by providing the necessary tools and materials required.

I also feel that excellent social interaction is vital, not just between the adults and the children but between the children themselves as they learn so much from one another. As a teacher, it is also my responsibility to ensure that I provide an environment that is safe, welcoming, creative, challenging and of course fun which will support the various learning styles of the children.

In my personal time, I love travelling and exploring new countries, cultures and food. I also enjoy keeping fit and spending time with my friends and family.

Hi, My name is Hannah and I’m from Singapore. I started my journey as an early childhood educator 2 years ago in a Reggio-Inspired preschool in Singapore before coming to Etonhouse Thomson. I have experience working with children from 18 months till 4 years old and I thoroughly enjoy it, impacting children’s lives. My philosophy is, I strongly believe that children learn through play and the image of the child, that they are capable and unique individuals who should be respected. As an educator, I firmly believe my role is to educate, love and care for the children helping to nurture them.  I enjoy travelling and during my personal time, I like to watch movies, running and spend time with my family and friends.

My name is Annie Yin Yi and I am so excited to be your child’s Chinese teacher this year. I am from China and married with two kids. During my past 10 years in teaching I have had the opportunity to work with children from different age groups in both China and local international school settings.

I am inspired by the projects of Reggio Emilia  and  believe  that  this  approach  further  extends  the  natural  capabilities  in children and supports them as they naturally explore their world around them. I believe that Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire. Children have a right to respectful environment and as teachers we should create play-based and  meaningful  learning  environments  for  them  to  explore  and  engage  with.  It  is  also essential to take each child’s prior knowledge into consideration as we work together within our class community.

Playing Piano and Zither (guzheng) is my favourite thing to do whenever I have free time. Just as bilingual education can stimulate the potential of students, the collision of West and East music can also has different sparks. Guzheng is a traditional Chinese instrument, and its elegant melody often hits the depths of our hearts.

It is my great honour to continue my own learning journey at EtonHouse Thomson and I look forward to meeting you and your children in August 2020.

My name is Myrna Hassell-Peterson, but everyone calls me Janida. Please feel free to use whichever you are most comfortable with.  My family and I are from the Dutch Caribbean. We moved to Singapore 13 years ago. I have a son and a daughter. I was fortunate to grow up on a beautiful volcanic island called Saba, where as a child, I explored my natural surroundings through play. These experiences taught me lifelong lessons, which helped me to become the nurturing person, and nature lover that I am today.  Exploration is a key element in early childhood development, where children learn in a natural environment and gain lifelong experiences. I have worked with children aging from infancy through to six year olds. I joined EtonHouse Mountbatten 718, in 2016 as part of the Pre-nursery and Nursery 1 teaching team and at Thomson as Nursery 2 class teacher for two years and year 1. 

My hobbies are; gardening, interior decorating and roller skating. I also enjoy being outdoors and exploring together with my family. I am grateful to have this opportunity to work at Thomson, which allows me to draw on the elements of teaching and learning that have long been a part of who I am. Encouraging children in their learning and exploration in a safe, natural environment, at a pace that is most comfortable to them helps to accommodate all learning styles. I love supporting children to gain independence and build on their confidence. I am dedicated to the social and emotional development of each child. Hi, my name is Shermin. I was born in Penang and lived there for most of my early years. I moved to Singapore permanently at the age of six. I began taking an interest in early years education when I had the opportunity to help out at a friend’s early years enrichment center during my days as a marketing manager. After much consideration, I decided to pursue my passion in this field and took up a Bachelors of Arts in Early Childhood Studies in London and worked simultaneously at a preschool there for two years. I am a firm believer of play-based learning and am thrilled to be able to join the Etonhouse community practicing the Reggio Emilia approach. As an early years practitioner, I believe every child is unique and should be given a voice when it comes to all aspects of his or her learning journey. On my days off, I enjoy traveling, practicing yoga and spending time in my kitchen coming up with new recipes. I am able to converse fluently in English, Mandarin and basic conversational Japanese. I look forward to meeting all of you!



My name is Wan Ping and I am originally from Shanghai, China. I have been working as a teacher in Singapore for more than 15 years. This will be the fifth year I work at Etonhouse Thomson. As an educator, I believe that children are capable thinkers and that every child is unique. They have their own way of thinking, communicating and expressing themselves. I respect children’s unique ways of learning, their interests as well as needs.In my spare time,I like reading, jogging and cooking. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

I am from the United Kingdom and was born and raised in North London. My family is from Northern Cyprus; however, I never got the chance to live there. Once I finished my education, I decided to move to Turkey and fell in love with Istanbul, where I spent many years teaching.  I have been teaching for 16 years, and during this time, I taught English to adults for a year, which made me realise how much I loved working with children and went back to teaching in the primary years. 

I decided to move to Singapore with my family three years ago and have been a part of the EtonHouse Thomson community since. This will be my fourth year teaching in EtonHouse Thomson.

I believe living in different countries and experiencing other cultures gives me more understanding of the world and enables me to have a more open mind to both teaching and life in general. I have a passion for inquiry-based learning, which led me to the International Baccalaureate. I believe education is a journey in which students discover and fulfil their individual intellectual, creative, social and physical potentials. 

I spend most of my free time with my daughter, and with the time I have left, I read, draw mandalas, and paint. I love travelling and discovering new places with my family.
